Pasankalla, sometimes also written as Phasankalla, is the popular popcorn from Bolivia.

It originates from the Andean region, especially from Copacabana, the small town on the shores of Lake Titicaca at an altitude of 3,810 m. There, the popped corn is often sold fresh from large bags at markets and portioned according to demand.
Many Bolivians, just like tourists, stock up on Pasankalla in Copacabana to bring the desired Pasankalla to their relatives.

Pasankalla is prepared in a classic manner: oil is added to a large pot and heated. Finally, the special popcorn corn is added until the kernels eventually pop. However, special popping machines are required in factories to puff the popcorn, so preparation on a home stove is unfortunately not possible.

The special Pasankalla corn kernel is unique in that the kernels taper to a point at the end. The finished Pasankalla popcorn is significantly larger than the popcorn commonly found in Germany and has a very special and delicious taste, despite having a similar texture. Anyone who hasn't tried it should definitely do so.
